1. What sort of camera should I buy?
That’s one of the most frequently asked questions and can be difficult to answer. Make sure you are comfortable with the camera you select, weight, size etc.
Do a lot of research, check out local camera stores and chat to the sales people. Narrow it down to a couple of options and remember it must suit what you want to do with it not what you are being told to buy by a sales person. If in doubt, please email me and I will do my best to try and answer your questions.
2. What sort of equipment do I need for the course?
Preferably a DSLR or something similar. If you have a compact camera, please ensure it has some manual functions such as aperture, shutter priority and a variable ISO.
Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, Pentax are all good brands. For the DSLR users, a couple of lenses 18-55 and 55-200mm are very useful or 1 lens 18-200 or 18-300mm.
3. Where do I buy equipment?
I found D-D Photographics in North Sydney to have the best prices around and buying in Australia means you get a warranty here to cover your camera.
4. Can I give a voucher as a present?
Yes photography classes can be a great present and I can make up a voucher for special occasions.
5. What if I can’t make all the classes in a course?
No problem, I am very flexible, if you miss a class, you can make it up next term.
6. Which class is right for me?
The entry level course is aimed particularly at beginners. No previous knowledge is assumed or required. Many participants have just bought their first SLR and often their first camera of any kind! Or they have had a camera for awhile on fully automatic and want to learn how to use all the functions on their camera.
The intermediate class is where the person knows the basics but wants to test their new found knowledge in a variety of practical classes.
The various workshops are aimed at some very specific photographic applications, see my website for more details.
7. Do you provide course notes?
Yes, I send you course notes at the beginning of the classes for you to print out.
8. What is the class size?
Generally small numbers but a maximum 10.
9. Is there an age limit in the class?
No, but usually I don’t take students under 11 years old and they need to want to do the classes themselves.
10. Do you do private lessons?
Yes I do, please send me an email and let me know what you would like me to cover.
